The 13th remains a long hole moving gradually up the hill with 2 new sentinel bunkers, as existed in 1932, framing and protecting the turn points of the hole. The trees on the left have been removed and will give players incentive to play further left, increasing the length of the hole.
Here is an aerial image of the hole in 1939 with the bunkers circled in red.
The changes to the hole will be:
New long tee to make it a 570 yard par 5 from the black tees.
Widening of the fairway.
The addition of two sentinal bunkers at the turn points of the dogleg.
The first bunker will be 275 yards from the black tee, 248 from the blue, 200 from the silver, 175 from the white and 125 from the green.
The second bunker will be 70 yards short of the green.
Our original plan had us moving the cart path as well. However, with the removal of the two small eucalyptus trees on the left, there is plenty of room to the left and moving the cart path and the sprinkler boxes would have been expensive.
